"Radium Girl" Enamel Pin
$10.00
The early 1900's were an age ripe with new scientific discoveries... and the continued damage of greed held above human life. The Radium Girls were a shining example of just that. Lured with lavish pay in a time that didn't afford such a boon to women, these girls unknowingly sealed their fate with each watch face they painted using radium-based paint. Instructed to "point" their paintbrushes, or use their lips to get a finer point from the brush bristles, as well as often painting their nails and teeth with the glowing paint for fun, these girls suffered the agonizing effects of radium poisoning. The United States Radium Corporation knew of the dangers of radium exposure, although what's a human life compared to the fruits of profit?
Inspired by a gruesome history and the classic cinematic art style of the 1920s. This hard enamel pin features a glow in the dark effect on the halo and teeth, and is wrought in gunmetal-hued metal for a cold, hard shine. 2" tall, with a secure double backing to help them hold fast.
