"Ortolan" Art Print
$20.00
Turn a blind eye to my grotesque indulgences.
The ortolan is a tiny bunting at the center of a macabre culinary ritual. The birds are captured from the wild, housed in darkness, and fattened for some time on millet. When ready, they are drowned in Armagnac brandy, roasted whole, and devoured feet first, leaving only the beak. Diners feast while covered under a napkin; some say it’s to retain the intoxicating scent, while others say it’s to hide the diner’s repulsively sinful act from their god.
Simultaneously an aperitive or emetic ritual, if you will, depending on which side of the napkin one is viewing it.
This is an 8" x 10" print on 100lb uncoated cardstock. Your print is signed and stamped on the back, and will ship in an acid-free cellophane sleeve for added protection.
